For the past three years, LWOB’s Board of Director’s Vice Chair, Ed Turner, has been involved in pro bono law reform work in Myanmar where a major effort is in process to rewrite the many laws largely ignored by the prior military government. Some of these laws date back more than 60 years to the British colonial period. Mr. Turner’s focus has been on corporate, commercial, and financial laws of particular interest to prospective foreign investors. Having been a long-time steward at Shearman & Sterling’s Hong Kong Office where he represented foreign investors in Asia, Mr. Turner has extensive experience in that sector. Most recently, he has been analyzing and offering comment to various Myanmar officials on the new Investment Law, which was recently passed by their Parliament. He expects that his work there will continue for the foreseeable future.
